Why Hanover Press

A Publisher Built for Serious Theology

Rigorous Peer Review as Standard

No original volume is published without expert feedback and approval from our editorial boards. As an introductory member of the Association of University Presses, we are committed to the peer-review standards that distinguish university press publishing.

Ecclesial Pricing and Distribution

Academic theology priced for the church, not just the library. We dispense with the outdated pricing models of major university presses to make serious theology accessible to pastors, students, and educated laypeople who need it most.

Rigorous Editorial Oversight for Dissertations

Few publishers offer genuine editorial guidance for dissertation-based monographs. We do. It is extremely rare for a dissertation to require no revisions, and our editorial investment ensures your work reaches its full potential before publication.

What We Publish

Three Editorial Boards. One Standard of Excellence.

Editorial Board I
Analytic & Systematic Theology

Dogmatic theology and analytic and philosophical theology. All work should be sufficiently constructive and attuned to theological and pastoral concerns.

  • Metaphysics of the incarnation and Christology
  • Trinitarian models and divine attributes
  • Theological anthropology and psychology
  • Religious epistemology and moral theology
  • Political theology and philosophy of religion
Editorial Board II
Baptist Theology

Constructive and historical Baptist literature. Volumes defending baptistic distinctives and historical monographs on Baptists are especially welcome, as are re-prints of classic Baptist works with academic editorial investment.

  • Baptist confessional and historical theology
  • Defenses of baptistic distinctives
  • Historical monographs on Baptist figures
  • Re-prints of classic Baptist works
Editorial Board III
Confessional & Historical Theology

Historical theology across all eras and confessional theology that constructively interacts with a Protestant confessional tradition. Purely historical works without theological engagement are outside our mission.

  • Patristic, medieval, and Reformation theology
  • Post-Reformation and early modern studies
  • American religious history
  • Confessional Reformed and Anglican theology
Publication Standards

What We Expect from Every Volume

Hanover Press is committed to publishing books that rival the content of Oxford, Cambridge, Routledge, Baylor, Princeton, and Brill—at prices that are accessible to the church. Every title we publish must meet the same standard.

All published titles must be consistent with the orthodox Protestant tradition—that is, what is held in common by the Second London Confession, the Orthodox Creed, the Westminster Confession, the Three Forms of Unity, and the Anglican Formularies—and written or edited by authors who confess the Nicene and Apostles’ Creed.

Every Title Must Evidence
  • Original contribution and independence of thought
  • Coherent and compelling presentation in both style and structure
  • Exemplary methodological rigor and mastery of the subject matter
  • Authorship by those holding terminal degrees in their field, or significant compensating factors such as extensive peer-reviewed publications
  • Consistency with the orthodox Protestant confessional tradition
Eligibility

Who Can Submit

Hanover Press invites proposals for single-authored original volumes, edited volumes, and Baptist re-print volumes primarily from those holding terminal degrees in their field of research.

Proposals from those without a terminal degree are not typically accepted. Such proposals must exhibit significant compensating factors—such as extensive peer-reviewed publications in the proposal area or equivalent academic experience—for consideration.

Those considering dissertation proposals should consult our dissertation publication guide before submitting. Proposals for revised dissertations receive the same full publication experience as standard original volumes, including rigorous editorial oversight that is rare among publishers of dissertation-based monographs.

It is extremely rare for a dissertation to require no revisions. While revisions are often required, few publishers offer rigorous editorial oversight for dissertation-based monographs—which is a key benefit of publishing with Hanover Press.
